Rooster hat

soooo it is about to get really frigid in the Midwest, like wind chills 60 below for a couple days. This is my first winter with chickens. My two roosters have quite large combs and have already seen a touch of frost bite despite always having access to adequate shelter. My question is: has anyone ever tried to make a rooster hat?

I don't think a rooster would allow it to stay on. Probably scratch it off
