I have a bcm rooster whose insistence on being outside for way too long instead of in the cozy coop during subzero windchill resulted in the top back part of his comb getting frostbite. Luckily I caught it before he went in for the night and he spent over a month inside a heated outbuilding recovering. After the first day despite the initial appearance there was continued improvement and it quickly got to the point where the whole comb was healthy red again. I was relieved because he's a very handsome guy and very sweet. He's outside again and our temps have been relatively warm in the 50s-70s.

However, I've noticed that on occasion the area that had been frostbit will turn a bit purple, as if the circulation is poor. Like a human who has poor foot or hand circulation. Is this likely to improve with time or will he permanently be very susceptible to cold temps in that area? We are going to have another dip into the teens soon and I'm thinking of bringing him back in on those days since he seems to be sensitive.

It's not a big deal; I'm just wondering - not a lot of information online other than roosters fully losing parts of the comb.
