My old flock is down to just five assorted hens and a rooster. They have been together four years now and most still lay though not but maybe three times a week. BUT the rooster has been picking on one of the oldest. He is always a very well mannered mutt and she is a buff orpington. He doesn't want her to eat or even return to the pen at night. She gets her feathers all puffy but otherwise keeps her distance. What on earth is going on??? I don't know if I should correct one or the other and how?

I personally would remove the roo for a few days. This will give you the opportunity to make sure your old girl is really acting ok, and not sick , and to give her a break. Im not sure why he is treating that way. :(

That I will do.This has been going on over a week now and long enough. I like the idea of moving him cause it is hard to get a hen back in the group without trouble. And I will give the buff girl a look over and keep an eye on her. Thank you!
