I recently built a new nest. I transferred the straw and eggs to the new nest. As soon as I did this, the rooster when into the new nest and manage to hide the eggs between the straw. I push the rooster out, rearranged the nest and eggs and he did it again. So I took the eggs out, let him do his business and then I put the eggs back in the top of the straw. I wonder why did he do that. I have a theory. Because there is a new rooster sharing the flock with him he hide the eggs because he thinks those are not fertilized by him. Please comment, I am very curious:D

Are the eggs fake?
Purpose of your making a nest?- trying to entice hens to lay eggs there?

A rooster will get into nesting boxes or get into a hens nest at times - I would assume he's checking it out to see if it's "suitable" for his ladies. I have had some roosters "build" nests for the hens too and when the hen is getting ready to lay an egg, he calls her to that nest.

No. I don't think he's hiding eggs. When chickens stir around in nests, depending on bedding material, eggs naturally get covered. Most of my hens lay eggs in one spot, it's not unusual for some of the eggs to be covered by straw by the time they all finish, they get in there and move bedding around to suit their needs.
