4 roosters in the hen house, 6 hens, 2 roosters are slated to depart tomorrow but still have a question about what unfolded this morning.

I was working near the run this morning (250sf of run space) and 3 of the roosters were doing their morning sparring. 2 of them are about 6 months old and the other maybe 8 months. At one of my glances over one of the smaller roosters was knocked out cold, wings all splayed out and the other two were pecking and clawing at him, not very aggressively but sort of curiously.

I made my way around the barn to the entrance and by the time I got there that rooster was up and staggering around. He was visibly shaken like a punch drunk boxer, eyes were closing, head dipping, etc...I hung around for a few minutes and he seemed to shake out of it. I go back to work.

Next thing I know he (yes the one that was knocked out) is on top of a different rooster like he mounted him and pecking at the back of his head. Again I made my way into the run and they were so involved in fighting they didn't notice I was there. I picked up the aggressor and put him in a dog crate in the run and went back to work again.

About an hour went by and when things seemed calm I let him back out. Now he went straight into the coop and is hiding in a nesting box. I thought it was weird, but what are your opinions? I can't tell if he is hiding from me or the other roosters. Regardless, he goes away tomorrow, most likely to freezer camp.

He looks like the one in my avatar.

I am not a vet... but it sounds like a head injury. Head injuries are something that crested chickens (particularly sparring roosters), are more susceptible to because of their upward skull protrusion. I have heard of 3 different crested roos (within the past year) get head injuries and act strange/ill afterwards. :hmm
