Ok so my is free range, highly self-sufficient, they even put themselves to bed! So I had 2 hens go broody 2 weeks apart birda and Jo.

Birda hatched her babies 6 days ago. Jo is still being patient.
Our rooster Moe is very nice and gentle helps the chicks eat and watches birda and babes, warns them ext....
Once birda's hatched though, we noticed Moe at least once a day goes in the coop and attempts to mate with Jo šŸ¤·šŸ¤¦
Obviously she's not down and puts on a commotion.
We have 2 other laying hens that are perfectly fine I don't understand why he's doing this or what to do šŸ§

She could be a favorite hen. Best to seperate them physically with a wire or crate as he'll cause her to break eggs by mounting her
Oh my goodness šŸ¤£ that brings favorite to a new light.
I'll have to move her or lock her in the coop because I've never been able to catch MoešŸ¤·

Thanks for the tip!

I have a headlamp that has a red light. The chickens know something is there, but can't see well enough to jump off the roost. Grabbing them is easy.
Yes, a headlight is critical, IMO.
Best if it has several light settings and that you can't tilt it up so as not to light a path for them to 'escape'.
