Rooster in the flock

That's a different situation, did you order a straight run batch?

The cockerels will mature before the pullets, and can cause much stress, chaos and even injury.
You want to have a plan in place for what to do with the males as they grow and when they mature.
A separate enclosure, or wire dogs crates, are a very good thing to have when raising chickens.
No, not a straight run.
Rhode Island Reds day olds are hard to sex (apparently) .
they could only give my 80% accuracy...so im anticipating 1 or 2 .
I wouldnt mind 1 . i do have 11 acres, farely nice size coop (at least 200 SQ feet) with 10 nesting beds and lots of perches.
Plan to free range as much as possible .
also inherited a nice cattle barn, although its a oldie, its a googdie.
theres a nice big room inside that they used for goats, and also another big room they used for rabbits, complete with rabbit cages.
its a fixer upper but the place was a steal.. and its sound ... so theres lots of room to call a time out, until i know what to do ......
