In August 2021, I bought 3 older pullets first and, 2 months later I bought 4 day old chicks which included my roo. My rooster (Dark Brahma) just turned 6 months and he's coming into his own. He's started crowing and mating with his hens. He's in charge of a flock of 6 hens - 3 are 6 months old and were raised up with him and, 3 are 1 year olds. I'm having a big problem with him. He's aggressively going after one of the older hens that is lowest in the pecking order. She is not only picked on by the older hens, but now by the roo. Does anyone know why this is? He's being particularly brutal to her - she hasn't allowed him to mate with her even once. She rather crawls in corners and balls up while he pecks her head and claws her back. I've been doctoring her all along, but now I've had to separate her from the flock because he is relentless.

Since I've removed her and brought in to doctor he has turned his aggressive mating to the next hen in the order of older hens. I have still never seen him mate with the top of the order of older hens.

I'd separate him from the flock for several months giving him time to mature. If upon reintroduction he continues with this behavior, it is likely that it can never be changed. He would have to leave my flock. Hens first.
That sounds like a great idea, I'd already set up a pen inside of coop and outside for my injured hen, but after posting I witnessed him being aggressive again caught him and now he's in the pen. Hope it works!! Thanks for the advice.

This exact thing happens with our rooster and Road Island Red hen. But instead he would sit on top of her, like as if he were mating but wouldn’t be mating, then his mother would come over and start to peak the poor Road Island Red in the head and would rip her feathers out, just like how your chickens feather were ripped out of her head in that picture. We separated him for two weeks and nothing worked. After that he still did it, and wouldn’t stop. So then we posted him on Craigslist and some one wanted him thankfully 😅. But from my experience separating him didn’t work, but I guess you can try it. If he keeps on doing it you’ll probably have to get rid of him. I hope you find luck in all this!!
