Rooster is getting fresh with me...what do I do?

Well, yesterday when I carried the feed out to them in the pasture was when he pecked me. So, today when I brought in their feed, I watched him carefully and never let him get behind me. There were no problems. I did sweet talk him some, hubby has been going on and on about how I have to tell him how magnificent he is etc etc. He is a very pretty roo and I do have respect for him as the king of our flock. Hopefully we can get a respectful truce.

Unfortunately I found out he had pecked at the kids and they didn't tell me, so I don't know how they handled him when he did it to them. I suppose I'll keep them out of the coop for awhile till I see how he's going to turn out.

I have a golden sex link rooster that keeps attacting me. He is a big rooster! Well I haven't tried holding his head down...i have tried standing my ground. He will fly up and me and my first reaction is to put my foot up and he gets a little fling. SOmetimes he will do it a couple of times. I will put my hands on my hips and make myself look big. He will then start pecking the ground and eating everything. So it this when I should hold his head down? How do i go about it? Do i do it even if he hasn't attacted me? I am a little nervous that he might try and attack me. This morning I went out to the coop to feed and water and he attacked. Its got to room and i was in the doorway coming into the main room and he was close and tagged me on the knee. Broke the skin alittle and it hurts like crazy. This is the first time he has attacked me in the coop. What should i do??

Many of the techniques posted in this thread worked great for me. I'd just add: don't let bad behavior become a habit, try to anticipate and prevent it before it occurs, and be sure anybody exposed to your roo is prepared, educated, safe, and up for the task. My roo is now wonderful. However, he remains defensive of anybody strange or new. I would expect this, and wouldn't let a stranger go unattended in my chicken lot despite the fact that he is a perfect gentleman with me now.
