I have 1 EE roo and 1 d'uccle roo (bantam)both 16 weeks old. the EE has started harassing the little bantam so much that he hides from him constantly when in the run and stays on the other side of the yard when they free range.
My husband and I got a used little tikes playhouse and created a bantam coop, we have 2 hens also, which we placed in the large run, 18' x 30', next to the other coop and tonight we put all 3 in for the night, hoping that they will be safe and comfy in there and when i let them out to free range everyone will get along ok.
Do you think that the new playhouse coop is big enough for 3 bantams to spend time in until I am home to let them out to free range?
Is this the right thing to do, separating the roos? The little bantam really is just the sweetest lil guy and seems very traumatized by the big EE rooster.
They have been raised together and the bullying has just been going on for about a week, and they have been sleeping in the big coop together but then when they come out into the run in the morning it all starts again and I have to go find the little guy hiding in the corner with his little head buried to protect his comb. Once I let them out of the run he heads to the opposite side of the yard from the EE roo and things seem ok, so long as he can stay away from him
We have 16 standard sized hens and the 2 bantam hens so there really should be no problem with the girl to guy ratio and I really do like both roosters, although the EE is not really the cuddly type he is nice and respectful....not aggressive towards me and some of the hens seem to prefer him to the bantam...some the other.
Any thougths on this will be greatly appreciated by me too.
