Hello all,
I have a rooster that’s always had some troubles walking. He seemed fine just clumsy when young.
His legs for the last few months almost seem to be out in front of him. Like if he were to lean back a bit he would be sitting on his butt. He’s getting around alright and eating and drinking just fine.
Just wondering what would cause this.
Thanks for the help.

Do you have pictures? It could be a deformity or a vitamin deficiency.

Not the best pictures I can get more later.
As you can see his legs are almost forward, if that makes any sense. They’re kinda upright when walking not perfect then when he stops they kind go forward
I think I have some vitamin b I’ll start that today.
Thanks!

And he’s 5 months and the only rooster we have. We have a large coop with plenty of room and he doesn’t get picked on and is eating and drinking fine so far just worried if it gets worse.
Thanks again

I’m feeding him what available in my area and what is feed the hens which is layer pellets. Along side stuff from my garden ( peas carrots Swiss chard watermelon raspberry’s blackberrys and others) and some scratch as well. They all get the odd leftover steak or noodles too. and he’s free range and I’ve seen him scarf down plenty of grasshoppers and other bugs when he can catch them with his legs being as is. Is that diet supposed to be different?

Where are you located in the world?

How long has he been eating layer pellets?

I'd get the vitamin B Complex into him and offer him chick starter or an all flock feed. If you don't have that, then give him extra protein like egg, fish or meat.

When chickens sit or walk on their hocks as he is in the picture, it may be riboflavin deficiency. The B complex would help treat that, and it needs to be started right away for best results.
