I've had chickens for years and I've always been lucky and never had any problems. I currently have 14 hens, an Old English Batam Rooster, 2 Guinea's, and 1 Light Brahma Rooster that is 6 months old so he is still a baby. He is the one I can't figure out what's going on with. About 6 weeks ago we had infectious bronchitis hit our flock ( first experience with that) we only lost our Austrolop hen and saved the rest. No I didn't cull my flock, these are my babies. I just won't introduce anything else into our flock. My Roo is eating, drinking, and still alert and acts fine. He still comes running to be every time I walk outside waiting to be picked up. When I picked him up a few days ago I noticed I could feel his breast bone. Then I kept checking him each day and noticed he has no meat on either side of the breast bone. Im giving him yogurt, greens, and of course he free ranges 6 hours a day and eats well. His crop is not impacted as it's full at night then empty in the morning. I treated for lice/mites today just to be safe but I haven't seen any. None of the other birds are doing this. I have tylan 50 he has no breast muscle to inject the meds into. I've never had a rooster this calm and loving and he is like my child. Chickens have also been wormed. I do not have a vet that knows squat about poultry any where near me as I am in a rural area.
