My rooster, Fu Xi (Fudge), is making little nests on the floor of the coop --- one in each corner. The girls, some of whom have been using the nest boxes for 3 years now, have deserted the nest boxes in favor of these little nests. Yeah, it's sweet that Fudge is taking care of his girls, but a couple of those nests are hard to get to! And what is he going to do next?!

Well, they're still laying the eggs on the floor! Any ideas? If I mess up the nests, Fudge just rebuilds them (after giving me the stink-eye).

Is there any way to put rocks or some kind of blocking thing so that he can't dig any more?

Try cleaning up the nest then putting a milk crate upside down in the same spot. If he can't get to it, maybe he'll abandon that spot.

Maybe put 5 gallon buckets (upside down) in the corners, or chicken wire off the area for a few days??? Or show fudge the nest boxes...lol.
