Yes, that would be more ideal for sure! We have the roosters for a breeding project and because my daughter, whose project this is, loves these roosters. We plan to butcher cockerels from the breeding project. But, we don’t have as many hens as expected due to a Marek’s problem. Even with one rooster in with our remaining 8 hens, they were getting feathers ripped up. We stopped rehoming extra Roos when we realized we have Marek’s, so we can either kill them or try to get them to live together. Current goal (won’t say plan since we are rolling with the punches) is to keep roosters together but separate from hens and place briefly with hens for breeding as needed. We do realize that it is unusual to convince adult Roos that didn’t grow up together to live peacefully, so this may not work. At that point, we will move on to Plan D or E or whatever we are on, which MAY be individual housing of bullies in a cattle panel pen.I really don't understand this rooster flock business.
For me at least part of the joy of having roosters is that they live with the hens.
Sure they have the odd scrap. Nobody dies.
