Rooster mating with pullets who arent laying yet????

If I seperate him for a few weeks in a pen next to the girls where everyone can see each other, will there still be the need to reintegrate him?

If you feel he is hurting the girls, give separating him a try, see if the girls seem much more relaxed.
Adding him back once the girls are all laying will probably be a bit harrowing at first, but hopefully they will submit and he'll calm down pretty quick.
How much space do you have?
Is he keeping them from eating and drinking?
Are there places for the girls to get away from him?
Places 'out of line of sight'(but not a dead end trap) and/or up and away from any bully birds. Roosts, pallets or boards leaned up against walls or up on concrete blocks, old chairs tables, branches, logs, stumps out in the run can really help. Lots of diversion and places to 'hide' instead of bare wide open run.

Many times I see pictures of just a 2 dimensional run, just a wide open space. While adding ^^ will make it look more cluttered, it will increase the use of the vertical space so there by giving your birds more space to get away from each other. This allows the birds to manage chicken society themselves.

I think if you separate the rooster just a couple of weeks until your pullets begin to lay, then add him back, you will be happier. If he doesn't work out then, then cull him. Not every rooster is a good keep. Once you have a good rooster, you will know and be happy.

They free range most of the day, if i'm at home. When I go out, they are in their run/coop. In the run there are 2 roosting bars, one small fitting only a couple and another longer one. There is a cinder block in there as well. I'll ad a couple of things to lean against the coop so they can hide behind them. I think I will go ahead and lock him up for a couple weeks and see how the girls are. Thank you all for your advice!

Do roosters do this? Can it hurt the pullet? I have a rather large Brahma rooster who was hatched with the Brahma and Cochin puletts in question. I do not know if they are laying yet. They are 24 weeks old. Should I remove the rooster for a while? Seperate the pullets to see if anyone is laying? Thank for any advice!

I am unsure if your pullets should be mad or glad but roosters do not possess sexual organs like most other animals do. In other words a rooster does not have a penis regardless of how large the rooster is in every other way. Your hens will be fine except perhaps for a small bald spot on their heads where the rooster holds on when mating.

LOL... yes I'm sure they are happy he doesn't. I was rederring more to his weight and his overeagerness. He grabs them quite hard and they have not grown as quickly as he did.

Yes, that's perfectly normal! He'll mate with them whether they're laying or not. Don't worry about it at all =)

My second rooster came from my first. Hatched by my Barnevelder, he’s not mounted her yet. It’s quite the commotion outside of my house right now with this current rooster wanting to hump everybody. our first didn’t do that. They just kind of grew into it together. It seem to be appropriate. This one offered fruit to a two month old i let free range. Never saw that with his dad, I’ve also never seen a rooster and hen Fight like roos because hen wasn’t having it. She does squat for my hand. Aeggon first of his name King of the hens may be a bad boy. I only hope he sorts it out and it’s not an asshole to kids.

Ok so in summary it’s ok if pullets are not laying yet (but within a few weeks ) and rooster occasionally mounts them.
