rooster moved into the playboy mansion coop?

my rooster Elvis is having a wale of a time with my 7 hens but he's a small breed so is making a right mess of the hens scalps and back of the neck when he mounts them. can anything be done or a hazard of wanting fertile eggs?

I've not had a rooster yet but I know some people put chicken saddles on their girls to protect them from overly-amorous roos.

Do you want fertile eggs? If not, you can separate Elvis or re-home him.

Thank you i'd never heard of them, they look pretty easy to make as well, I do want some fertile eggs .tricky! would adding to the flock reduce the problem do you think?

Do you mean will that slow down Elvis' amorous advances?

I don't know. Again, I don't have a roo, but from what I've heard others say that do have one, he may pick out a few "special" ladies for his attention and wear them out. It is recommended having 8-10 hens per rooster so maybe if you add to the flock, he'll be more even-handed and share with more ladies. I just don't know, maybe each rooster is different...some just have a couple favorites and some like everyone.

I think the saddles will be of help either way.

thanks again I'm gonna get some saddles and add a couple to the flock. see if that will help. i'll post any results.
