rooster needed for eggs?

new to BYC. want to start a coop. know nothing about it. do you need a rooster so a hen can produce eggs for eating. i plan on geting RI reds to start with. coop will be 8'x 9' fully inclosed with 4 nesting boxes. i plan on starting with 6 hens. any help will be greatly welcomed.

The hens will lay whether you have a rooster or not. So unless you want to hatch your own babies (which is fun!) you won't need a roo.

you could start with day old chicks most farm stores are getting their chicks in now.
