Kisura
Chirping
I need help. I have a two year old rooster that isn't able to make any sound despite trying. I can hear air "gasping" or releasing when he tries, but there is no sound. I don't know if his tongue is swollen or not, as I've not paid much attention to the size of his tongue before. Otherwise, he seems ok for now. He is upright.
I need some suggestions on what to look for and what to do, depending on what I find.
Background: I live in Wyoming. We, as much of the country have had subzero temps overnight and very low during the day. I have a well built "shed" for their coop. The coop seems to be warm enough. The hens are still laying some eggs, though not as many as they do during warmer and longer days (normal). I saw them last Monday as I had to leave to attend a family situation. My husband checked on them Tuesday night and yesterday, but didn't notice anything of concern (water, feed, etc were available, temps were ok) but on asking right now he said he hasn't heard the rooster crowing. We don't know when this started other than after Monday morning.
