My rooster, Caramelo, is not crowing even though his “brother”, Mac, is the same age and he is crowing. Mac and Caramelo are both 8 months old. He doesn’t even want to mount any hens, he runs away from most of the chickens (even the 10 week old chicks). But, he is very sweet, he doesn’t attack or peck or really act like a rooster. When I squat down to the chickens, he immediately gets on my lap and sits down. Why doesn’t he act like a rooster??

He is subordinated by the dominant rooster. He may eventually find his mojo and try to improve his position in the pecking order.

My cochin bantam roo started crowing long before my older lavender orpington roo did. Almost a month before I think. I wouldn't worry to much, at least they aren't fighting to be dominate roo like mine are this week.

I have a 24 week old roo that has all the ladies to himself and he has yet to make any noise that comes close to crowing. He just mills around like the hens. The whole point in getting him was to hatch some babies but he’s taking his time.

Rusty finally started crowing, so I believe there’s hope for your rooster too. It’s quite the manly crow too! I heard it for the first time this morning. I was shocked to say the least.

I believe my rooster, that still to this day does not crow, will crow because he is now becoming a bit more rooster like, so I hope he cries one of these days!
