My rooster just turned 1 year old, along with his flock of 5 girls. As far as I know, they didn't molt in the fall, and the hens definitely did not stop laying in the winter. Although, now they are skipping around a bit with the eggs. Recently I noticed that my rooster only had 2 long tail feathers left. (this is an old pic) They looked pretty ragged and "old." He now only has one left, and I just know that he will look so odd when he loses that last feather. Is he molting? If so, he seems to be the only one. I have always seen the small, short feathers laying around the coop, although now more than before since we've changed coops. I'm not sure if they're from him, or my red sex links though... Anyways, when will he grow more feathers??

I have experienced the first molt at about 1.5 years. I have had many Red Sex Links that went to 2 yrs old before a mini molt. If there is such a thing as a mini molt.

Yes, your roo will grow some more tail feathers.
