Rooster or hen? Austrathorp

i see you posted a few of these threads for your 'lorp chicks, so i just thought i would share that of my 6 australorp chicks (almost 5 weeks old), the one i suspect is a cockerel has a distinctly large comb that i started noticing as different when he was two weeks old. Until it shows a more solid sign, i'd go with pullet

edit to add, he was also the only one whos tail didnt start growing right away. I think his comb started coming in before his fail feathers haha

I don't see enough comb development at this time to think cockerel so I'm thinking pullet. However, it's still quite young. I would post its pic again in about a month. By then its gender should be obvious.

Thank you! I hope they are hens. I am very impatient because I just don'the know what to do if I have roosters. I do not want to send anything to it'so death..by returning them..but I can'tell keep multiple roosters. I already have one that was dumped here.

You're welcome. I hope for your sake we are correct and it turns out for sure to be a pullet.

So far no big difference in comb development. It is just bigger and not as docile as the other 2 that have feathers. None of the 5 have any red on their combs but the silver laced Wyandott has some pink. It behaves like a hen.

I wonder if I use hen saddles and spur covers (and keep spurs short) if I can get by with only a few hens per rooster? If just 2 roos.
