We have 4 chickens who are all about 7 months old. The breeds are: Buff Orpington, Black and Copper Maran, Cuckoo Maran and a Blue / Black splash Orpington. We know for sure that the cooper maran is a rooster as he is crowing. However, none of the others crow or lay eggs. Are they hens or roosters, how can I tell and if they are hens, when should they begin to lay? We live in Central Virginia.

Your very best #1 bet is to post photos on here for people to tell you what sex they are:-)

At 7 months old, you should be able to tell if you have a rooster. I say they are pullets that aren't ready to lay yet even without a photo. By three months old, I have been able to pick out all my roos.

Attached is a photo of two of the 3 chickens that I am wondering are hens or roosters?

Then why does only one crow? I've also attached another photo of the 3rd one in question.

Sorry I copied the same photo in my previous post, here is the 3rd one in question?

Still see a bunch of cockerels.

The others don't crow yet - Some can be "late bloomers" - I've got a Black Copper Marans who didn't crow til he was 8 months old. Often the presence of other cockerels around can put one down a notch, and especially if your crower is more dominant than the others, that would explain it.

I say all boys as well...sorry...only one may crow because he has established dominance over the others, or simply that they have no desire to crow yet.
