How can you tell if a chicken is a rooster or a hen when its 2 months old?

its hard to tell at that age. there are a few signs. pointed hackle feathers, pushy, more comb than others. depends on breed too. i have 6 silkies that are 6 months old and and cant tell yet

The first post in this thread is pretty good on how to sex chicks. Some chicks can be pretty hard even at a later age but you should be able to make a pretty good guess by 8 weeks with most breeds. Even with some of the “easy” breeds, some individuals can be hard for quite a while. If you have different breeds or mixed breeds, that can make it harder to. It’s usually easier if you have chicks of the same breed to compare with each other, comparing leg size and thickness for example.

I usually find that even by 4 weeks if I think a chick is a male it probably is. But if I think it might be a female, I’m more likely to be wrong. Some cockerels are just slower to develop than others.

Good luck. This is more of an art than an exact science but you will get better with practice.
