Rooster or not?

Maybe to wake you up at 4am every morning?

I find that hens lay even better without a rooster around.

I haven't ever noticed one way or the other. Unless stressed my chickens lay once a day with a rooster or without. I just like having a rooster and the option of culling my birds once they stop being productive. Hatch a new flock out without having to order eggs.

If the sound of a rooster crowing caused hens to lay more, commercial egg laying operations would be playing rooster crows from morning to night. They don't.

You hear all kinds of myths and rumors about how things work with chickens. Occasionally there may be a grain of truth in one of those. This is not one of those.
