We got three chickens that are about 6 weeks old, and unfortunately we have to find a home for them. We know someone who raises chickens and is willing to take them all as long as they are hens; however, we have one whose gender we are not sure about. It's bigger than the other two and it's comb is larger. It has never crowed (they are all still peeping). We aren't sure what breed it is (so if you happen to be able to tell, please let us know!).

I was hoping some of you may be able to help us out. Here are a few pictures of the chicken in question.

If the person helps as any size reference, that's an 8 year old. And in the background you can see the other two chickens which we believe to be hens (they are all the same age).

Thank you!

I'd say it's a hen - there's no hackle feathers or saddle feathers. If it's really 6 weeks then I think it should have them by now??

Thank you for the input! We got them exactly 5 weeks ago as chicks so they could be a few days younger than 6 weeks depending on how old they were when we actually got them (we were told a few days), but they're definitely close to that age.

Well, this is what it looked like on March 29, a day after we got them.

So I'm not sure why it looks so old? The other two don't look as developed as Lumos (chicken in question) at all.

Hmmm. I stand corrected then.... Just a big chicken LOL! My white rock pullets were early developers like that... If it is indeed 6 weeks old - which is what it looks like now - I would say probably a cockeral then.
Very pretty whatever it turns out to be.

That was what we thought as well, especially since the other two (one of which was sexed and is for sure a pullet) are significantly smaller (although they aren't the same breed so that could have something to do with it). Thanks for the insight!

I think it's a rooster, look at it's comb and waddles ...

Either that or it's a hen with a really big comb.
As for the breed I'd say maybe white rock, or a Delaware X something?
