Rooster ordinance?

I’m curious about our city ordinance. reading through these guidelines our city allows roosters... but they can’t make noise? Does my city know of a silent rooster that no one else has ever seen. or are they just cover all bases and playing the non-comital-middle? the reason i ask is i have a neighbor that loves to complain about everything so roosters have always been off the table for us. But our “cluck zone” is on the back portion of our 2 acre lot. would a rooster break his personal sound bubble? i’m mainly concerned about noise after dark.

I think this just means you can have a rooster until your neighbor complains and then you cannot have a rooster. I know everyone is different, but my hens are significantly more obnoxious than my rooster. He crows every 10-30 minutes from maybe 5-8 in the morning and is done for the day. His crow isn't very loud. Meanwhile between my ten hens you will here the egg song all day long and it is LOUD. I've heard of no-crow collars but they are ethically questionable, but I guess if you feel more strongly against culling him, and can't give him away, then a no-crow collar would be the last option. You could consider asking your neighbors if they would mind. That will help in planning!

I don’t think i would try the collar. seems a bit cruel to force an animal to go against his instincts. i don’t have a rooster right now. there are just so many beautiful boys being given away right now it’s difficult not to take in at least one. and i’m tired of having to tip toe around a difficult neighbor. especially since he recent brought home a wiener dog that is louder than anything on property. and that long dog literally never stops lol
are there actually quieter breeds or is that a big myth.

quiet roosters...not really. But, there are roosters that crow less than others. Having only one rooster, and no others in earshot will help bc there willBe no other rooster to hear And therefore state his claim to his girls repeatedly To the other rooster in earshot.

Don’t get a Leghorn rooster-very loud, very often.

our most laid back and quiet girls were Salmon Faverolles. Perhaps see if the males tend to be quiet too. Others speak highly of Buff Orpingtons and I recall comments by others on BYC that they are mild and fairly laid back, not too noisy.

I just had to comment on it varies by individual definitely! My Salmon Favorelle has been the loudest and most continual noise producing chicken I've ever had. She made loud noises (sounded like a goose) and talked almost constantly...I ended up rehoming her because of it since we are on a small, urban lot.

Ok so, my vision of a perfect flock has MANY SF’s running from place to place while chatting their adorable fluffy faces off and of course there would be no bullies or vicious roosters. Oh and i’d have a few ducks that were hatched and raised by hens . hmmm. maybe one day. my neighbor is not offended by hen chatter so far, but i’m not sure i want to play rooster roulette and press my luck i wouldn’t put it past him to try and poison my flock.
