Rooster over mating one hen

I’d just seen a bunch of posts saying that you can separate a bully chicken in a crate for a bit to calm them down.

Yes, but it should be a really big crate or even put it in its own pen.

It’s my St. Bernard’s old crate so it’s pretty big. I’m hoping to put a fence up soon so he can have his own pen

It does seem like the hen he’s over mating is a very dominant hen who will chase others away from the food. So I think he’s just trying to show dominance to her. He’s just such a big boy that I’m worried about him hurting her.

It’s fairly thick I think. It’s double layered. Canvas and fleece.

I remember we had trouble with overmating a few times. We first went to ebay for saddles and made the mistake of buying chickens aprons. Those things do NOTHING for the hen; they're for decoration only. What you want is something like this: A chicken saddle, made of denim and leather. Nothing'll get through that.
