i recently found out a few days ago that i own a rooster. i live in highlands ranch colorado, but im not sure i owning a rooster in a residential area is legal. i didnt want to call the animal control because if i told them i had a rooster and they said it was illegal, they would surely track me down. so far i have no complaints from other neighbors, but im not willing to get any. im just hoping i cn keep it long enough so i can get a broody hen (all of my chickens are 4 months old). i was wondering if anyone knew a place where i can find laws about owning a rooster in my zone.

PS i wasnt sure which section this should go in.

I would tell you to go to the BYC Learning Center and click on the LAWS tab. That should have the ordinance for Highland's Ranch, but it doesn't. Is Highland's Ranch in Centennial now? (Used to be Arapahoe County when I lived there). There's like a gazillion covenants and home owner laws there in Highland's Ranch-- I would guess it would be similar to Denver when it came to roos, which is a no-go.

You probably will have to do some searching for your county on the web or make a phone call (block you number, if you're worried or use a cell phone or pay phone). Knowing Highland's Ranch, you're probably going to have to rehome your roo.

Good luck!
