Rooster Problem

How is your animal control out that way? You could always call them saying there is a stray chicken hanging around your coop and you are concerned over biosecurity, especially with the recent avian flu issues. If you can catch it, they may take it.

I do think a paper trail is a good idea, though I would be worried about him realizing it was you that reported him. People like that can be unstable and I would keep in mind the possibility of retailiation.

Alternately, should the rooster disappear...say as if it had been eaten by a predator, he probably wouldn't care very much.

Get a small animal trap, you can buy one at Tractor Supply, bait it with corn and trap him. What you do with pesky critters that you catch in a trap is up to you. Personally, if I could catch him in a trap, he would not go back home......
I've had that thought as well. Trust me, if I catch him, he's not going back.

While I had considered the dangers and need of a paper trail, somehow, I hadn't actually considered speaking with animal control as well or the whole avian flu/biosecurity issue! That's a very good idea...I think I will run down the street as soon as I get a chance (during their open hours) and speak with them about it.
