My gut is telling me he's got to go, just want to know if I'm overreacting. Our roo will be a year in May, so this is first spring in all his hormonal glory. He's always had a "favorite" hen who's missed a few feathers on the top of her head but nothing worse than that. He's very respectful of everyone else, including my family. BUT, this morning our coop cam caught him dragging his favorite girl out of the nest box while she was trying to lay to mate. In the process he ripped out some feathers on her head and ripped her comb. I cleaned her up and she looks like she'll be fine but seriously?? Is this behavior that I should have been expecting or is this taking it too far? I've never seen him try and drag somebody out of a nest box before. If anything, I've always been pleasantly surprised at how willing he is to back off when the girls tell him to kick rocks!

Thing is, how does this make you feel? Horrible. That is enough. Don't keep him. Always solve for peace in the flock, and peace for the owner. He has had a good life, and one quick moment.

I don't know if his dragging her off the nest could cause her to become egg bound or not but I wouldn't chance it.
