Rooster problems

what i did was grab my rooster and walk around with him when he tried attacking me after a while he just quit trying to attack me.

in my opinion the tap dance is not agressive at all. It is what he does with the hens to round them up it seems. I think they are other behaviors that are definately agressive posturing or a defensive nature. A rooster is mostly trying to be a tough guy and protect his flock. I think if they don't feel threatened by you, then they have no reason to act out. When my other buff orp roo was just getting the ropes, he was more defensive and worried about his girls. But it seemed that in a couple weeks of getting manly he was less worried about me, and knew that more than likely I had some yummys

My favorite sweetest friendliest roo who let me hold him and hand feed him and who came running for treats was also the roo that put a bullet sized hole in my calf when I wasn't looking.
That said, he went to freezer camp! I have little grand children and wasn't going to take the chance on him getting one of them.

Now the new flock has four roosters and I was trying to decide which two to keep. Leaning towards keeping the Jersey Giant until he charged a granddaughter last night. I kicked at him and chased him too, but if he doesn't get the message, He's out! I have two black cochins and a Buff orpington. Looks like I will keep the buff and one of the cochins.

My advice, once one attacks, give one kick/chase lesson, one chance after that. If he doesn't get the message...stew pot!

Also now my hubby uses the band saw to trim off the horn on my roosters....it's like trimming the dog's toenails.

I have onr red that waiks around growling all the time Ialso have 3 leghorns he wops on at least once every morning. Now this red isnt even the biggest roo in the pen but he has the attitude bad. Icaught him giving me the eye once and I "scooped" him half way across the pen. He stilll picks on the other chickens but gives people a wide berth.

I started keeping chickens a year ago. The rooster that was given to me had to be tamed. He is great with the hens and even helps me at times gather them in at night. When I try to pet him he bites the fire out of me. I read up on not letting your roo think he is your boss. Now when he bites me I wrestle him down and hold him for about thirty minutes.I rub his head till he likes it. I never let him know that he might have won...due to a sore finger or two. We are getting along much better.

Can't wait to get my first rooster. This sounds actually, like fun.
