Rooster question

I would wait until your pullets are laying before introducing a rooster.
I would select an older cockerel or younger rooster that has been raised in a multi-generational flock. These birds have learned proper manners from the senior rooster and hens and tend to be much better birds. They have also learned how to behave around human care takers and if they are human aggressive, it is usually apparent.
I don't sell my boys unless they are a rarer or sought after pure breed. Mutts should all be free as should the very common breeds.
Ok thanks for the advice

^^^^ This what you want to do.

I have had very good luck with a good rooster...but not all roosters are good. If you can get a rooster, that has been raised in a multi-generational flock that has free ranged, that is close to a year old... that is about perfect. As you approach the coop/run, he should be the first to see you. What you want is something so nice, that they just were not quite willing to cull him.

A lot depends on the predators you have, I have found roosters very good protection with flying predators, and sometimes coyotes, and bobcats, and foxes. I have lost some feathers or the rooster, but kept my hens with these sometimes.

Ask at feed stores, county extension agents often know of poultry clubs, 4-H kids.

Yeah I’ll give it some time before I introduce a rooster. There is a feed Store close to me and some of them know somethings about chickens so I’ll ask them sometime
