Rooster question

Not really, unless you like hearing loud noises each day. But I must admit, they are pretty gorgeous. Im just getting hens, they are really quiet and some breeds are prettier than the rooster. If you want baby chicks then you could always just order them for somewhere else. Also, neighbors tend to not like roosters in the morning and every time they crow after that.

Roosters have limited value in predator management. Value varies as a function of breed of rooster and type of predator. In my setting they control losses of juveniles to Cooper's Hawks. They can also be used to direct juveniles to better roosting locations in free-range setting.

They are effective only as full adults. Too many people fail to realize importance of maturity.

Mine have very little effect against predators like red foxes other than they can give others in flock a little more time to fly up to safe location. My gamecocks even with fully developed spurs can not whip a fox.

If you live in an area with lots of predators they r good because they will face off with the predator.vIn there mind it's there dutie to protect the flock. There also nice because they finf feed for the hens when they free range. I guess there also really nice to have around and watch roam my yard.
Also, even if you burry a wire undeground so animals don't get in, it won't stop foxes. I put mine more than a foot in the ground and it still dug it out. I managed to get it before it killed my birds. I have had a bobcat rip open my wire as well but it push through the pophole. I was lucky becausen I shut it due to the negative temp. the night before.
