Rooster randomly attacks

Thanks for the update!  I'm glad to see you are seeing some progress with his behavior.  It will take time to fully trust him but giving him a chance to modify his behavior is a great start.  I've never noticed any difference in rooster behavior according to temperatures, though it could increase hormone secretion or distribution when the heart works harder in the heat...who knows?

Keep at it until he always moves away instead of towards, no matter the weather, and I'd say you've changed his mind about your status in his world.  Good job!
[/quote thank you so much!! Yeah still some work with him for sure! I just happy he has made some progress

Wonder if the heat just makes him grumpy lol.. I know it does me.. :p

Aww poor little lady. I spray them with the hose if one is being especially mean lol. I have had a few bullys.
My dominate hen is strange as soon as my rooster jumps on the submissive one she will run over there as fast as she can and try to jump on her too! One time I caught her mocking him like she was mating lol, is that normal? I've even seen her cackle in excitement like she found a treat to give everyone like a rooster would do.

I've never heard of a hen doing that before. I have heard of hens turning into roosters before. It happens when they have issues with a gland that makes them produce to much testosterone. Maybe that's what happened?

. I always seem to get the odd strange animals (my luck I suppose) lol oh wow I had no idea that was possible, that very well could be it then! I swear I feel like with chickens I'm constantly learning something new

Mounting isn't just mating. It's all about dominance. It's not unusual for a dominant hen to do what you are seeing.

I've never seen one hen mount another hen in 40 yrs of keeping chickens, so it's not all that common, be the hen dominant or not...definitely a shift in hormones. VERY unusual to have it happen in a flock with a rooster in residence.

I've heard it happens more frequently in flock that do not have a rooster and a hen will start to assume that role, faux mating and even starting to crow but I'd not tolerate it if you have it happening. You know that old adage about a whistling woman and a crowing hen both come to no good? Well, a hen that is mock mating and crowing isn't likely to be laying either, so they usually get a trip to the stew pot.

I have a hen right now that's on the cull list for fall who rarely lays, if ever, and was only kept past her first season of poor laying due to being a good broody mama...but now she's getting cranky, needlessly attacking other hens and she did a full on battle with some new cockerels wherein she acted just like a rooster, flogging and jumping the rival until he backed down. My rooster just watched the show. She definitely has more testosterone than she should have and I no longer need her services as a broody, so she's on the list for culling. I have a rooster, I don't need a hen who acts like one.
