I am curious about this issue I have with rooster “aggression”. I have one hen out of 10 that is constantly bullied by the rooster, but it did not start out that way. It started out by the rooster trying to mount her and her always dodging his attempts. He’s never gotten to mount her before. They’ve known each other for about six months now and they are born around the same time- were purchased together as young 4 to 5 day old chicks. Seems to me like out of nowhere he just got tired of her not allowing him to mount her. He stopped protecting her from predators he stopped allowing her to eat with the other hens and he stopped allowing her to roost with the other hens. I have trimmed his dewclaws to try to keep her safe but he still picks and jumps at her when she gets close to his flock. I am concerned that this behavior could also be caused by her being sick with something because she has had diarrhea lately as well.
He does not do this sort of thing with any of my other hens, only her. He still allows her access to the nesting boxes and broody box but once she has laid her egg he starts attacking her again.
