Hi. I’m really worried about my rooster. A few days ago he started with mild hoarseness. I can tell his usual cute noises sounded like he was congested. Had no nasal d/c. While this was starting his Bumblefoot infection returned and on Tuesday vet did incision and drainage of his left foot. Found a lot of pus. The next day he started with a squeaking noise before crowing and is open mouth breathing. Vet returned to assess him and thoroughly examined him and found no pharyngeal irritation and no nasal discharge. He said to continue his antibiotics (Baytril). He continues to have those symptoms. He also appears hot, opens his wings to cool off. I’m really getting concerned. He appears sick. Anyone with similar situation?

Thank you for replying. I hope he knows what he’s doing. He performed an incision and drainage, drained the pus, gave him a local injection with an antibiotic, Baytril, cleaned him out with betadine and sutured him. I’m giving him Baytril for 2 more weeks. I’m also doing betadine dressing changes every 2 days. I’m really worried for my little boy. So you believe what he’s exhibiting are a systemic sign of an infection? Should he be on IM antibiotics?

Aren't you giving him Baytril orally?
Have you mentioned those symptoms to your vet, if not, I would. I treated my duck for bumblefoot and the outcome was not good, to be honest. But that was a long time ago and at least the vet tried. I"m sure they know more know.

Sorry about your duck. I’m crushing up Baytril tablets and mixing it in his food. Vet is aware.

Curious of the dosage of Baytril? Giving it for 2 more weeks? How long have you been giving the Baytril?

Does the foot where the vet removed the pus and sutured it look infected?

The foot looks clean and I’m applying betadine ointment-soaked gauze daily and covering it up with a soft boot. Vet did a wound check on Thursday and it looks clean. The dose is 3 tablets per each pound of food. I’m also mixing it in his water. Going to ask him if I can give him a more direct dose. Thank you for your support.
