Hello

I went into the shed where we keep the chicken food and treats to heap treats. I left the door open on accident. My poor rooster went in and stepped on a sticky rat trap. He came running out with it on his foot! Poor thing!
He is a mean rooster, so I gently went up behind him. I had a stick. He stopped. He let me place the stick on the pad. Between his struggles and me holding the pad in place, it came off. But his foot doesmt look too good. And its covered in grass shavings.
He stood still for a few minutes. He is now walking around. But he hopes every few runs.
What should I do for him?

Thank you!

You can get the sticky stuff off with vegetable oil. Massage it on liberally and work it around and the sticky will come off. I've had lizards and snakes get stuck in it and that's how I get them off it. I use coconut oil, works well. If he lost some skin, the coconut oil won't hurt him. Once it's cleaned off you can assess the foot and see if you need to bandage for a few days. You can use plain neosporin or vetericyn spray if you need to bandage anything.

It's his left foot. That's about as close as he will let me get without putting a hole in me.

Can you sneak up on him during the night when he is on the roost. If you can't put vegetable oil on his foot., maybe you can cover him with a towel(to prevent bites) and just lower his left foot into a bowl of vegetable oil- and keep him in there a while, hopefully while it de-sticks him.

I know all about those sticky traps and have gotten caught on them myself.

Great option! Thank you!
