I have a young rooster not sure how young. I only got him a couple months ago. He has been crowing fine for a lil over a month. Then a few weeks ago I noticed he wasn't waking me up in the mornings, turns out he is still crowing but it is a very hoarse sounding crow. Almost like he has laryngitis. I was told he will grow out of it and start crowing normal again, but I figured this was the place to ask. Has anybody ever had anything like that happen and will he be ok.

I don't have a roo so I don't know the reason, but maybe someone else in BYC does.

Is he your only rooster? I had a rooster once that didn't like to crow around other roosters. It was like he was submitting to them. He crowed loudly at first, but then backed off eventually. Once those other roos were gone to new homes, he let his crows rip loud and clear!

Yes. He's my only rooster, I have him in a pen with 12 hens.

My young rooster crows a fair amount but lately he has changed his tune a little. Instead of "Look at me now!" he says "Look what I can do!" sometimes.
