Feeding Wild Birds

Why do domestic birds that escape die in the wild?
Because they do not know how to forage for food in the wild.
Why do wild birds that receive more than half their food from feeders sometimes die? Because an unexpected event causes the feeders to not be filled.
Kindness can be overdone - I do not advocate stopping this feeding - just being mindful of the risk.

There has been a brood of fledgling sunbirds hanging around in our thorntrees. They are extremely quick and difficult to photograph (especially with a point-and-shoot camera and a broken hand). They are also very adorable fluff balls and make an annoying high pitched chirp when mum is around.

Meanwhile, the junior Weaver birds are back to nest building practice (see pic below).
