Rooster storage

Don't forget to wait at least 2 weeks after introducing a new rooster before hatching any eggs. The chances are high that the new rooster will be the one to fertilize any eggs but everything I've read says wait that long.

Morning again . Guess I should give a little explanation of my poultry knowledge , very little . When my youngest was about 10 , we had a flock of about 15 birds . Their arrived as chicks , a red star type , barred rock , Rhode Island reds . They were a straight run as they got larger lots of rooster fighting , kept 1 rooster (Bruce ) . We kept these for about 3 yrs , the son went rooster on me & lost interest in taking care of the chickens . I had a day job & a herd of beef cattle. The chickens went to friends of ours who sell eggs at farm gate. Since then I have raised wild turkeys , tame geese, the last few yrs.
At the moment we have 12 wild turkeys & 7 tame geese. The first batch of chicken eggs are in the incubator, Rhode Island reds. The next 2 batches of hatching eggs are chantecler , partridge & whites . The end of May will bring chicks , barred rocks , black australorps, a type of red star & Columbia Rocks X .
The hi breeds are for eggs , the other breeds I would like to keep intacted as individual breeds if possible . We live in Manitoba , Canada . So birds have to be sheded for winter. They can be out on nicer days , but in at night for sure ( don't want to feed the fox & coyotes) . Hence the question , Rooster storage , & all the great info received. Thanks again , Balmoral .

SOunds like your best bet would be to build a coop separated into different area's with separate runs for each mini-flock. I'd make sure to NOT allow the roosters the ability to get at each other through any kind of fencing. However if you designed the coop right you could share heat between all of them and they'd have their own separate area. Putting up thin walls between with small holes would let air flow freely while keeping the Roosters from getting at each other.

That idea has real possibilities. I'm just in the process of building a fair sized coop 12 X 16 . So putting in divider walls is easy enough to plan . If I make the doors to each pen wide enough ,they would close off each pen leaving it hard for birds to escape while the pens are being cleaned out . This really has good possibilities. We already have a small 8X 8 coop from the chickens before. That would also eliminate the upset in pecking order each time I want to harvest a bunch of hatching eggs , from a particular breed . You can also make the walls where you can move them around inside. Tailoring the space for differing needs
