Well you don't have to be aggressive about it all at once, if they are being good just let them be, if they misbehave that is when they are shown you are the Boss, if mine are being nice and not mean to the girls or me I allow them to be left alone, except for breeding the girls in front of me thats a NO NO, and chasing them out of the food, If they get pushy, is when they are punished by picking them up and carrying them around, or if they still won't summit, I hold them down to the ground like a rooster pins a hen until they are quiet.
You do have to be a bit of a bully to hold your position, that is what roosters understand. Being a bit afraid of you unfortunately is actually a good thing, it will make them think before they try to bully you. I wouldn't chase them unless they are doing something you don't like, or you need to pick them up and they won't let you, then continue to follow them till you catch them, (don't give up) because it makes them have the feeling they got the better of you and they got away with not being picked up they will be harder to catch the next time.
How old are your roo's? Mine are 19 almost 20 weeks and they are sure feeling there hormones, yours may be a bit young yet to be very sassy. As soon as that starts though take your alpha position right away, they will test you to see if you are gonna allow them to be naughty. Much like horses do, not sure how much you can teach a chicken but they seem to be smarter than people give them credit for.
Mine heard the girls tonight and decided his time of confinement was over, mind you he has been separated since weds. in a stall with no wire on top, today he found out he could fly over and was sitting patiently waiting to be left in by his girls when I came out to feed tonight. So I let him in, but he didn't apparently learn anything, first thing he did was attach Fred the Wyandotte rooster, and try to cover a hen right in front of me. Arggg roosters I"m wondering if it's really worth the hassle. Maybe I should butcher them all and just buy chicks next year .......hmmmmm arggggggrumble.
