We hear so much about hens and chicks on here, let's give our roosters the spotlight they deserve!

Roosters are very interesting creatures. They are so stoic and gorgeous but can be so dorky sometimes. They can also be big and strong but have a soft, sweet side.

Let's share stories and/or pictures of our roosters! I am sure everyone likes to look at the pretty colors of roosters!

This is Hops, my main rooster. (I have 2 young BO cockerels that are not mature yet.)

The other day I caught my big guy being a father to one of the chicks that my broody hen is raising. (They were bought from TSC but they don't know that.)

Hops is the best rooster I have ever known. He is sweet to the hens and the chicks. He has never attacked or shown any aggression to anyone. And, best of all, he can be held!

That is so cool...very nice rooster you have. My Kong wasn't a fan of the babies for the longest time, despite starting integration at 4 days old, so its taking a bit longer to get them integrated.

I have a small booted bantam rooster named jay (short for blue jay) who has been through a lot. We got him April 2023, he and his brother were the very last birds at north 40. It was also the last day of sale there. We bought them to be friends with our little Serena bantam whose sibling died to an unknown reason. But the other birds with the serama and the serama himself attacked the little guys. I m moved him and his brother out to a new brooder. There he grew until he was fully feathered, and lived happily with our 3 turkeys and 20-ish other chickens (I don’t remember how many we had at the time) until January, 2024. This little rooster was attached to his brother ray (robin) and they’d never leave each others sides. We drove drone Washington to Arizona to help cousins move cattle to their new house, and we were gone for a week. January 16, 2024 we came home around 8, and it was dark. When we went outside to check the animals, we all saw the most horrific sight as soon as that flashlight clicked on. At the time we had 32 chickens 3 turkeys. There was my favorite turkey, Smokey dead at the bottom of the goat pen. There were 30 dead birds in the coop, some dragged outside, but yet there was one grey rooster standing there on roost despite the horrific scene. There was also a hen, her name is Shirley, in the barn. Along with the 2 surviving turkeys (goose, a bbw Tom, and pokey our bbb Jenny) and got attached to that hen. He’s doing great now, and very happy with his new flock of 21 hens. I’ll attach some photos. Thank you for reading his story!! :)
