I am also in, I mean with the "older the better" club.

That just slipped out.

When my roo first came of age, he had a real nasty rough attitude, he did calm down though. Now he is gentle on my girls, protective, pretty nice to us (for a roo that is); just a down right good roo. As he has gotten older he is less, umm....spunky, and doesn't do the roo thing as much. My girls just seem to love him, when he walks by every once in awhile they will lower for him but usually everyone is calm. He will beat the tar out of any other roo though. Seen him about kill one once. Good luck with your roo.

I don't know if my sweet Tobv just learned from the master or not, but he is sweet, soft and quick for my gals and you never see a feather fly. He was tutored by my old RIR roo that never chased a hen....he would just call them over to see an interesting morsel of food, do a little love shuffle dance and they would squat for him. Maybe they just felt sorry for the old guy but it worked and Toby started using the technique also as soon as he could breed.

Toby is a big guy with spurs 2 and a half inches long and he still never leaves a mark on the gals. Oh, that sweet, soft, southern lovin'!!!

That doesn't sound right... my rooster makes an effort to grab a bit of feathers on their head but not their combs. Ouch!

Yeah, I thought the hens had some weird parasite, but it turns out it was scabs! I wish there were some way to reform this rooster. He's nice with us, and he does the clucky "here's some food, ladies" thing. But he may have to go...

My rooster is the same way! I was so excited to get him because my last roo was mean to me, but I evidently just traded him for a roo that is mean to the girls! I am just hoping he gets nicer with age. My girls backs are getting bare!

I don't know what to do -- he seems to get along fine with most of the hens, but there is one now that still won't come out of the hen house, and she's not even safe there -- her head and comb were bloody again today. And I really don't like the unsightly bare patches on the other hens' backs (I know, I know, such vanity)!

Does anyone want a really beautiful Ameraucana rooster??
