Hello! I have a Rooster that is continuously wanting to flog my Dad. He doesn't flog anyone else but my Dad. Is there a way to stop him from flogging, other then going in the pot? The Rooster attacks when he's not looking or has his back to the bird.

How old? Under a year, a male chicken is a cockerel and suffering from hormone surges, teenage type ailments. Over a year old, call them roosters/cocks. They should be over or nearly over their teenage issues.

Recently a cockerel decided I was the target for his attentions. No one else, but me. I went in to toss around coop bedding, so I had a stiff rake in my hand. He decided to come after me as I was entering the coop (it is elevated, so I was on the deck, he was on the ground). I chased him, and only him, with the rake..he ran into the coop, into the corner, in his submissive manner that I’ve seen him use before with the top cockerel. So far, he has given a healthy distance to me and has not bothered anyone else in my family. Hoping he keeps his distance as we like him and don’t want to get rid of him.

The top cockerel targeted my short tween.. one day he surprised my tween and reflexively my tween kicked him upside the head...shocked my tween! But he gave my tween a healthy distance after that. That one was beginning to show his attentions to me, so I would stare him down and walk towards him if he started. In addition that cockerel hated our fishing net with a passion (many memories of being caught in it when younger and we needed to bring them in at night while finishing the coop), so would run to the opposite side of the run if I picked it up. He never escalated to a full on attack.

In the end, depending on age, you may want to house him seperatly for awhile. You may want to try interventions others will mention. If he’s really aggressive, stew pot is best. Always easy to get a cockerel or rooster, so don’t let a mean one ruin your experience. Good luck.

I had a mean rooster, and he liked to attack me, but after I chased him with a stick he stopped it. He chased my mom though, so we ended up getting rid of him.
