Despite what the title suggests this isn't about roosters fighting. I am over a fight (as my 4 year old would say) of what rooster to keep with my hens. For reference I have 2 sets of chickens. My first 6 pullets I got in March, my second set is mixed age batch I got from hatching and buying straight runs. Out of the hatch/straight runs I ended up with 5 roos. I love them all and have decided to keep them in a bachelor flock away from the girls. I am planning to keep one too with the girls for protection. But I'm not sure which to choose so for fun, which would you go with?

Professor Plum - lavorp
Pros:
He's gorgeous and has been my favorite since day 1
Very friendly and chill
All the ladies (from set 2) love him with the exception of one hen. My older hens don't really care about him
He's gigantic. The biggest roo we've got.

Cons:
He's pretty lazy, just kinda lays around near the coop all day. I'm not sure how fierce of a protector her will be as he lets the other roos boss him a lot.

Colonel Mustard - bufforp
Pros:
Pretty fierce, will square up with just about anyone
Has one girlfriend (ginger) who is so devoted to him she'll chase after other roos who give him attitude as a team they're a little scary but pretty protective.

Cons:
I don't trust him around my kids
The other girls don't really care about him

What about the other three?
So I haven't considered the other three simply because the girls don't care about any of them. Plus, my two black copper marans are very attached to each other and I'd hate to split them up, one of them also has a slightly underdeveloped leg and my big girls will pick on him when they get a chance because he can't get away as fast as the others.

A rooster usually won't provide all that much protection regardless. Between the 2 I would absolutely pick professor plum, human aggression is a separate thing from protectiveness and I wouldn't keep one that is human aggressive in hopes he'll protect the girls (he may or may not). Plus, the girls like him
