Rooster very sick, bumblefoot complications

Foot is officially off. Bone's exposed at the end and I'll attach a picture of current situation and because of how it looks I'll try to spoiler it (fingers crossed it works) but he's having a delicious egg, oats and a bit of yogurt for breakfast along with the antibiotics. All the reddish liquid in image is the betadine. View attachment 3966353
Now let's hope he starts the recovering process🤞.

I'm not sure if it's sold in the US but we have a form of betadine that comes as an unguent. It's got a higher dose of povidone iodine, is more expensive, and very sticky.

Also wondering about nutrition that could help his healing, since he seems to have a good appetite - thinking food rich in collagen and zinc.

How is it going ? I'm sorry to ask in case no news means bad news.
I am sorry for no updates, been somewhat busy! However, news is not bad: He hates the baths, but he is doing alright besides that I think, and we are continuing day to day with the anti-biotics and re-wrapping and soaking his foot. I am hopeful that the tissue will regrow now that all of the necrotic tissue is gone.
He still has a healthy appetite, he has lost some weight which is understandable but I am keeping an eye on things.

I'm glad to read this !
I totally get that posting every day when there is not much news and you are busy isn't possible. I hope you will make a call if something significant goes on, either good or bad 🙂.

Getting a bath seem to be a love or hate things for chickens...there are those who doze cosily, and those who struggle and splash water all over the place.

Well, some updates: He's started to crow a little nowadays when I bring in the hens to see him! He seems to cheer up immensely, and I let them spend a little while together every day or so to help morale.
Finished the anti biotics, continuing daily change of bandages/ointment etc.
He's eating, drinking, and he likes to escape the hospital box I've got him in and try to go exploring on one foot now. I'm gonna set up a large dog crate we got recently for this purpose soonish so he'll have a more permanent spot to chill, and hop around more if he wants to. I think he's pretty grumpy about having to lay around all the time and I don't blame him. But overall, everything seems hopeful so far.
Been giving him scrambled egg, some ground meats, the usual all flock chicken feed and bits of yogurt and apple, whatever he'll eat.

So glad to hear he is doing well 🙂 I enjoy reading his updates, thank you. I sometimes see on injury threads where friends get to come inside and visit the patients and it helps them cheer up immensely. Even get back to eating and drinking in some cases. It’s like a step in treatment itself, I swear!

Another good update about Goose!

It seems the flesh around where the necrotic tissue stopped and fell off is starting to heal very well! New, pink, and healthy, and it looks like it's beginning to grow down very slowly. Looking at probably 10-15 weeks of recovery by our estimate before he's healed enough for a prosthetic, and he's sleeping a LOT while he heals, but he's active when he's awake and enjoys visits with a couple of his ladies most days.

Goose is on the mend, we think! Fingers crossed 🤞

That's really good news. It seems he has turned a corner !
I suppose sleeping helps him heal, and that growing back healthy skin takes a lot of energy.
I hope he continues to get better. He still has a long road ahead of him but it's reassuring that the worse is now behind !

Current update: Have continued with soaks, he gets some egg sometimes and cooked ground beef+turkey or whatever meat scraps we have + the allflock feed.
The exposed bone ended up breaking sometime between bandage changes (which was a horrifying discovery; we took it out/cleaned the area so it wouldn't cause more issues). However all tissue around it remains healthy and in one of those silver lining situations, there's less for it to have to grow over now for a stump to form. Granted this also means a different kind of prosthetic will be needed now, but it's still doable.
He's crowing every morning though, he hates bath time very much, and he always goes to bed with a full stomach.
One other bird has a mild case of bumblefoot at the moment but we've been doing more soaking than anything else at this point + there is drawing salve on the way because after all of this, we're very worried to try more drastic measures.
Anyway here's a pic of Goose just hanging out, he's a real trooper.
