This past weekend our silkie hatched 1 tiny chick. Yesterday and today we brought her and the chick to see the flock. Our rooster both times ran at full speed and jumped on her to mate almost crushing the chick. It's more violent than when he mates the other hens. She tried fighting him, but he is bigger than her. We broke it up each time to try and protect the chick and we have to stay out and monitor them. As soon as we turn our back he tries to run at her again lol. Is this normal behavior? Sorry for the newbie question!
Forgot to add that mama hen's "twin" got mistaken for her and we had to stop the rooster from his violent mating of her, poor girl!
