Rooster vs Pullet Question!

OK, I'm looking at my 9 chicks. I KNOW one is a roo because of its tail (and how big it is). I thought roosters were the ones that actually had a tail feather thing..... not hens, is that true? and, I had someone tell me that if you hold the chick and tilt it away from you and it puts its tail up, its a hen, if not its a roo, I thought it kind of made sense because of the tail feather. If any of this is true I fear I have 6 roos out of the 9 chicks. I would love the help!

OK, here are the pics:

This is the one that is a Roo

I was trying to show size difference... (Right: Roo Left: I think is a hen)

Here is a pic of the tail

Here is one of the three buffs. I believe all of them are roos. (all their tails look like this)

In this one I was trying to compair one of the buffs (I think is a roo) and one of the blues (I think is a hen) It didnt really work.....

What I have noticed is that it looks like they have a tiny tail-extension! lol

I don't know, but that picture of the teeny tiny little tail feathers is absolutely adorable!!!! They are all so cute!

well I'm glad you think they are cute! Im stressing because I dont want them to be roos! I love them too much! and I dont think you can keep more than one roo (so I've heard)

Hens grow in their tails faster than roosters. But judging by the size of the Silkie in the fifth picture, I am positive that it's a rooster. The others are way too young to tell. I don't understand the tail thing you are asking??? Both sexes have a tail. Roosters have long sickle and saddle feathers, but those don't appear until they are a lot older.

Well I knew that roos and hens have tails but I thought that roos had MORE of a tail, persay, I thought they grew more of tail, kind of like what the pics show.... I dont know if this explains it any better...

I think your chicks are too young to make a gender ID. I have a few sprouting tail feathers, at one week of age, and, just like the widely differing wing feather lengths, I don't think that indicates much of anything, yet.
