Rooster wants to lay eggs?

My RIR rooster entered a nest box and is acting like he wants to lay an egg. What is this all about?

No, he is showing the girls that he found a good place for them to lay their eggs. I have one BCM roo that sits inside the nest box and tries (sometimes successfully) to get a hen to sit in the nest with him. Similar to some wild species of birds that the males make the nest and help protect it.

Ditto, in RoosterCrow's response. I loved when my Polish rooster did this when I put the flock into a new coop, and therefore new boxes.
