I had our first hen start laying last week, she had her 5th egg today. Yesterday I had to get my juvenile roo out of the coop for she could lay since he was not to fond of her going into the nesting boxes. He went back in the run and coop after she laid. Then today Lucy laid another egg and she left the coop and I found him in there checking out the egg. Now we have another newbie hen singing the song of her people and has been in and out of the box this morning. I periodically check on her and found the juvenile roo standing next to the boxes watching her. Does this seem normal? My year old roo runs around and crows happily when they start laying but this roo is overly curious.

It's about the silliest thing to witness. My big roo will start crowing when the girls sing their song. But my juvenile loves to watch, such a creeper. ;) I thought I read some where hens won't lay if they are not in private so when it's that time of day he gets to free range.
